(see americanninjutsu.com)
Although other instructors my also benefit from this information.
I ALWAYS WELCOME FEEDBACK!
Let me know how these worked for you, or if you have some ideas you would like to shair let me know, I'd be happy to post it with credit to you.

Why play games?

  1. To keep classes interresting, and not loose students due to lack of interest, after the "newness" wears off
  2. It may "seem" like a game, but is actually applying the skills learned in class from day to day, granted sparring applies these skills also, but does not take into consideration real life situations often, like multi attackers, obstacles, protecting some ones else while defending yourself, Using one weapon to defend against other types of weapons, having an actually goal other than just fighting, where fleeing from an attacker is a liable techniques, not being forced to stand and fight.
Of course now, these exercises I feel like should not take place of the normal training received in class, but me more of a reward, that the students have to look forward the last part of class. This works great for kids too that are misbehaving.
Always try to keep balance if the game is a "team" game, if one team has more higher rank students than another give them smaller weapons to equal it out some.
  3. Well simply put it is FUN!, I mean granted you teach cause you love it and enjoy watching other learn, but heck if I didn't have fun I would stop teaching, and this is another way for me and my students to have fun, get a great work out that applies their skills into "live" situations.
